Jupiter's Europa Could Hide Life

Video Explanation

Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons, may hide a giant salty ocean beneath its frozen icy surface — possibly containing more water than all of Earth combined.

To explore this mysterious world, NASA launched the Europa Clipper mission, a spacecraft designed to study Europa up close and search for conditions that could support life. The spacecraft will arrive at Jupiter in 2030 and perform dozens of close flybys, scanning beneath the ice and capturing detailed images of the moon.

Scientists believe Europa could be one of the best places in our solar system to search for signs of life beyond Earth.
