Cold is in the atmosphere, and all of you know what that means — it’s time for a cold and flu season.
Scientists behind a new study may have found the biological reason – why we get more respiratory illnesses in winter.
It turns out that – the cold air itself damages the immune power of the nose.
In fact, cold air can cut your nose’s immune response by 50%. The body has to work harder to uphold its normal core temperature, which is normally 37 degrees Celsius.
Reason
Scientists have tried to figure out “why people are more likely to get colds and the flu when temperatures fall during the winter?”
Our nose is the main entry point for respiratory viruses and germs. Also, our nose is powered to help prevent these from infecting us.
Scientists discovered that the front of the nose can detect germs even before the back of the nose.
Reducing the temperature inside the nose just by 5°C kills nearly 50% of the bacteria-fighting cells in the nose.
How to Prevent?
- Keeping your internal environment warmer can help you to have stronger immune defenses against viruses.
- Wearing masks can also help. It will prevent the viruses from directly entering your nose as well it helps to keep your nose warmer.
- Wash Your Hands – You can pick up the germ from someone who’s sick.
Because if the person sneezes in their hand and then touches the telephone, the keyboard, or a kitchen glass, you can also get sick.
- Exercise Regularly – Exercise is any activity that gets your heart pumping.
It helps increase your body’s natural virus-killing cells.
- Relax – Your germ protection system will grow your immune system revs up when you de-stress.
