NASA Human Spaceflight Head ‘Resigns’ Before Historic SpaceX Launch

NASA Doug Loverro

NASA’s head of human spaceflight, Doug Loverro resigned from his post on Monday (May 18), announced by the agency today (May 19).

Loverro was working as Associate Administrator for NASA’s Human Exploration and Operations (HEO).

Loverro got this place in December after a long quest by NASA, but now his tenancy has been cut small.

He was one of the important person at NASA and responsible for many human spaceflight programs.

“Loverro hit the ground running this year and has made significant progress in his time at NASA.

His leadership of HEO has moved us closer to accomplishing our goal of landing the first woman and the next man on the Moon in 2024.

Loverro has dedicated more than four decades of his life in service to our country, and I want to thank him for his service and contributions to the agency.” – NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine said in a message to NASA employees.

The Washington Post stated that his letter of resignation came after he violet a rule during NASA’s recent finding of a spacecraft capable of landing humans on the moon.

NASA is preparing to launch two of its astronauts to ISS (International Space Station) on May 27 using the SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft.

This will be the first time since 2011 that a crewed spaceflight mission had taken off from the American soil.

But the good news is that – on Tuesday NASA clarified the launch would continue according to that plan.

“Next week will mark the beginning of a new era in human spaceflight with the launch of NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley to the International Space Station,” the space agency said. “This test flight will be a historic and momentous occasion that will see the return of human spaceflight to our country, and the incredible dedication by the men and women of NASA is what has made this mission possible.”
